- How many people will be at Anime Boston?
Anime Boston 2003 reached a weekend attendance of 4,110 people. At the time, this set records as:
- The largest first-year anime convention in North America.
- The largest pre-registration count for a first year anime convention. (1,384 people)
- The largest anime convention in New England. (previous record: 330 people at Mikkakan 2001)
- The seventh largest anime convention in North America. (...in our first year!)
Keep in mind that the fire marshal asked us to turn people away after noon on Saturday (unless they had pre-registered). If we hadn't needed to turn people away, it is very likely we could have passed the 5000 mark.
As for Anime Boston 2004 attendance, due to the attendance cap and the fact we only accepted three-day admissions, the attendance was 3,656 people.
Anime Boston 2005 moved to the Hynes Convention Center and had just shy of 7,000 paid attendees. Total attendance for the weekend was approximately 7,500 people.
Anime Boston 2006 brought in 9,354 people.
Exactly 11,500 people were at Anime Boston 2007.
- How old are the people coming to Anime Boston? Will there be a lot of kids?
Anime fans come in all shapes and sizes...including kids. While most of the people attending anime conventions typically falls in the 16 to 26 age range, expect to see people of all ages...from 8 months to eighty.
- How do I get a booth in the Dealers' Room?
Refer to our Dealers' Room section. We recommend purchasing a space as soon as possible because the best spaces sell out fast and the entire room will sell out before the convention.
- Is there anything I can't sell in the Dealers' Room?
Yes.
- Food and drinks of any kind are strictly prohibited. Our contract with the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority is very clear on this fact. Do not bring Pocky or Ramune and expect to be able to sell it.
- The sale of weapons, steel or wooden, is also prohibited in the Dealers' Room. (Yes, this includes foam swords.)
- Finally, bootlegs, unlicensed, and counterfeit goods are not permitted in the Dealers' Room under any circumstances. This includes, but is not limited to, DVDs, CDs, wallscrolls, apparel, toys, pins, stickers, and playing cards.
Dealers' Room staff will be making routine inspections throughout the open hours of the Dealers' Room to ensure this policy is upheld. Any offending materials will be identified and the vendor will be asked to remove them. Multiple offenses will result in a vendor's expulsion from the room at any time.
- Can I have things for my booth shipped to Anime Boston a few weeks before the convention?
Sorry, our PO Box cannot receive large shipments and we do not have a physical office. We also don't have a large amount of storage space. You are responsible for bringing your own dealers' room merchandise and equipment.
- Is there a load/unload policy for setting up in the dealers' room?
The Massachusetts Convention Center Authority (MCCA) reserves the right to restrict all freight and package and package deliveries to the loading dock. MCCA Public Safety personnel will be on site to direct and assist exhibitors during move-in and move-out.
For the convenience and safety of exhibitors and patrons, all freight and material handling must enter and exit the facility through the loading dock. Exhibitors will be allowed to hand carry one item, one time, in or out of the facility without having to access the loading dock. No parking is allowed at the entrance of the facility; and the use of passenger elevators for movement of freight is not allowed. All packages are subject to inspection by facility personnel.
Hand carried freight is defined as one item that can be easily carried by an individual exhibitor, without the need for dollies or other mechanized equipment.
Exhibitors may perform their own material handling, provided they meet with all of the following criteria:
- Personnel performing the work must be bonafide, full-time employees ("authorized personnel") of the exhibiting company.
- Exhibitors must be off loading from a company owned truck or rental vehicle, or from a car, van or truck owned by personnel of the exhibiting company.
- All trucks, including co-owned or rental vehicles must be less than 24 feet in length.
- Exhibitors may use only hand-operated equipment, which they have provided; two-wheeled hand trucks and four-wheeled flat trucks are permitted. The use of fork trucks, pallet jacks, genie lifts, and lift gates or any other lift or mechanical equipment is not permitted by anyone other than the General Service Contractor.
