The Iron Karaoke contest is not a contest for the faint of heart. It is a challenge of epic proportions. If you’ve the voice, the memory, and the sheer guts necessary to take this challenge, then sign up at the Karaoke room Saturday and we will see you there.

Iron Karaoke Rules

Sign Up and Check-In

Sign-up for the Iron Karaoke Contest will be accepted in the Karaoke Events room Saturday, beginning at 3pm until all slots are full or until 1 hour prior to the start of the Contest.

Any signups in excess of 15 will be placed on a waiting list. To be guaranteed a spot in the contest, we highly recommend that you sign up early. Note though that every year, we get a few cancellations and no-shows, so even if you are on the waiting list, your chances of being in the contest are still very good.

All contestants must check in before the contest to confirm their spot. Contestants who fail to check in will lose their spot in the contest. Once the contest starts, the MC will only call the names of those who have checked in. For check-in, you will need your Anime Boston badge. Check-in will be held in the Karaoke Events room starting 1 hour prior to the Contest. All contestants MUST sign-in no later than 15 minutes before the contest starts.

Song Selection & Judging

Songs for the contest will be chosen at random. Once contestants are given their songs they will have ONLY 5 minutes to listen to the song and look over the lyrics before they are asked to perform.

Of the 25 songs in the contest, 10 songs will be posted on the Anime Boston website prior to the contest. The remaining 15 songs will be a mystery. People who intend to compete may practice the 10 known songs or not at their own risk. The songs have varying difficulty levels and may be either male or female vocals. Everything is up to chance.

Contestants will be scored in two categories: vocal/singing performance (80%), and lyrical accuracy (20%) and narrowed down to three finalists. The audience will then give their votes via applause and the judges will determine the final winner.

Awards

Prizes will be awarded at the end of the competition to the following winners:

• First place
• Best effort (audience vote, determined by applause)
