Masquerade

Masquerade Registration is Now Closed!

Scheduled Judging Times

What is the Masquerade?
The Masquerade is a theatrical performance in which groups of fans display their costumes or perform short skits featuring some of their favorite anime, manga, or videogame characters. These skits may be funny or serious, parody or action, they may use characters from only one series or many, but they are always creative and fun. In addition, the Masquerade is an opportunity to see these cosplayers show off some their spectacular craftsmanship and creativity. Awards are given to the best performances and costumes. The Masquerade has become one of the traditional main events of most anime conventions and is sure to be one of the highlights of Anime Boston 2008. The Masquerade at Anime Boston will once again feature both Skit Presentations and Walk-on Presentations. Walk-ons will perform first, with skits following after.

A "Welcome" and special announcement from the Anime Boston 2008 Cosplay Events Manager:

Hello All!

This year, I am proud to announce that the Anime Boston Masquerade and Hall Costume Contest will be converting to the International Costuming Guild (ICG) divisional structure, with the introduction of the "Journeyman" division. The number of skilled Novices in the past has prompted this switch, which adds FOUR ADDITIONAL AWARDS to the Masquerade, and TWO ADDITIONAL AWARDS to the Hall Costume Contest. Details on how to determine WHICH of the new divisions you qualify for can be found in the Masquerade Rules (when they are posted.) More information on the International Costuming Guild can be found at www.costume.org

Now, for some basic information on how our Cosplay Events will work this year:

For the 2008 the Hall Costume Contest, we will admit 35 participants, and waitlist an additional 15 in case of drop-outs.
New for 2008, the participants of the Hall Costume Contest will be invited to strut their stuff on the Anime Boston Runway during the Masquerade halftime show!
Anyone who has participated has the option of wearing their costume to the Masquerade, and appearing on stage. (Participation in the runway show IS NOT MANDATORY, so don't let stage fright prevent you from entering the Hall Costume Contest.) More details to come as registration time approaches.

For the Masquerade, I will register a total of 50 groups, of which 35 places will be reserved for groups performing skits, and remaining 15 reserved for walk-on presentations. If the quota of skits has not been filled by the application deadline, then we will allow more walk-ons to take the extra spaces. Walk-on Performances will perform first, and our skits will be performing afterwards. I will "waitlist" an additional 15 groups in case of drop-outs.

If you would like to participate in the Masquerade or Hall Costume Contest, then you or your group will need to pre-register for the event once applications open up using our online registration form. PLEASE read the rules before registering. They explain all of the requirements in detail.

APPLICATIONS FOR ALL COSPLAY EVENTS ARE NOW AVAILABLE!

Applications for our other Cosplay Events (including non-competitive events such as Anime Dating Game and Cosplay Chess match) will go online at the same time.

Good luck to everyone in your preparations for Anime Boston 2008. I look forward to receiving your applications when we open them up in December!

Sincerely,

Jeni (AB forum ID "LadyHawke78")
