Sumi Shimamoto is excited to make Anime Boston her first appearance in the U.S. Debuting in 1979 as Lady Clarice in Lupin the III: Castle of Cagliostro, Shimamoto has had a long and prolific career as a Japanese seiyu. A veteran of several Hayao Miyazaki films and Rumiko Takahashi shows, Shimamoto is best known to fans for her role as the heroine Nausicaa in Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, the fearless Lady Toki in Princess Mononoke and the shy widow Otonashi Kyoko in Maison Ikkoku. Also listen for her voice as Big Momma in Sorcerer Hunters, Sekihara Tae in Rurouni Kenshin, Mei in Tonari no Totoro, Gin Rei in Giant Robo as well as many others. Most recently, she can be heard as the voice of Erene in SoltyRei. In addition to anime, Shimamoto has dubbed several English language movies in Japan and was the Japanese voice of Princess Leia Organa in Star Wars.
